It’s finally here: the eagerly awaited Xiaomi 12S series. Let’s take a look at the top-of-the-line 12S Ultra model from the most recent flagship lineup, which the company unveiled earlier today (4 July 2022).
Design
The Chinese tech giant’s latest premium smartphone has a cow skin texture on the back. On the back of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is a sizable rectangular camera island and a smaller circular module for the image sensors.
This camera island is designed to resemble an actual camera with a circular lens and even bears the Leica branding, signifying the new partnership. Notably, the bump on the circular camera module is also rimmed with 23K gold.
Notably, silicon-based leather is eco-friendly. Additionally, it won’t turn yellow over time and is resistant to dirt and wear. The front, meanwhile, has a chin with a little bezel and a punch-hole camera at the top of the display that is centered.
Additionally, the phone has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The company has also given special attention to its cooling system. Using a thermal management system with a design that was influenced by the veins on leaves.
Camera
The Leica Summicron lens system is present on the back of the 12S Ultra because of the recent partnership between Xiaomi and Leica. The device has a triple camera setup, with the Sony IMX989 sensor serving as the primary camera.
This sensor has a large 1-inch sensor size and a 50-megapixel resolution. Additionally equipped with HyperOIS and able to record 8K videos is the primary shooter. It also comes with a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with a 128-degree field of view and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with a 120x magnification and OIS.
Specifications
The top model in the new flagship series is the 12S Ultra. Is equipped with Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. Which is built using a 4nm process. This chipset is coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of internal UFS 3.1 storage.
The new gadget has a 6.73-inch LTPO 2.0 AMOLED display on the front with a 2K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 1500 nits of maximum brightness, and a pixel density of 521ppi.

The display also has an optical fingerprint scanner built into it. Even the stereo speaker system is tuned by Harman Kardon when it is delivered. Other features include WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, IR Blaster, Surge G1 power management chipset, and more. The Android 12 OS-based MIUI 13 custom skin also includes these features.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra’s powerful 4,860mAh battery pack, which supports 67W fast wired charging, powers the device from the inside out. However, it also supports 10W reverse charging and 50W wireless fast charging. The device can be charged to 50% with wired charging in just 15 minutes. While 40% can be reached with wireless charging in the same amount of time.
Pricing & Availability
There are two color options for the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, including Black and Green. It was introduced with a variety of storage options. With the 8GB + 256Gb model starting at 5,999 Yuan (roughly 896 US Dollars). Priced at 6,499 Yuan (about 971 US Dollars) for the 12GB + 256GB model and 6,999 Yuan for the 12GB + 512GB model (roughly 1,045 US Dollars).
