The World of Ports portal was designed to assist in making smoother operations for ship owners and chartering teams using reliable data science. Launched in 2007 and made available to Inchcape clients since 2010, the World of Ports system has evolved over the years and has since set itself as a leading port intelligence provider in several ways.

Covering 4,600 ports, 16,000 terminals, and 36,000 individual berths globally, the World of Ports 2.0 module not only promotes an extensive data network but it is verified by a central analyst team and headed up by a Master Mariner who hold seafaring backgrounds and experience in identifying issues and potential risks in the vessel to port compatibility.

In a Port News article by Hellenicshippingnews.com, Inchcape’s Vice President of Sales & Product Development, Jeff Clark said, “The strength and variety of data we gather day in and day out allowed us to define an ambitious roadmap for the service. In addition to the improved user interface, we’ve split it into four modules with loads of new features that can really help to enhance customers’ competitive advantage.”

Years ago, making access to essential data more available and speedy to clients was a pipe dream. However, as the 2.0 version of World Ports amps up for a series of new module releases, Inchcape clients can expect to see more transparency within the innovative technology.

New features for the World of Ports module will include the Port Data module, and throughout the upcoming year, it will also feature a Port Cost Estimator module, Port Performance module, and Market intelligence. All of which are tools designed to free up time while mitigating risks.

Customized alerts and time stamps play a big part in the upgrade allowing for immediate knowledge of the departures, and the berthing status of ships. “Companies can then use the status of data in reporting or verification to the authorities,” says Clark. Customers can also create geofencing alerts for piracy zones and Emission Control Areas which Clark says optimizes transparency between partners.

The port Cost Estimator, Market intelligence, and Port Performance modules work hand-in-hand to gather essential port data that assists in operational planning. The improved interface is a time saver for clients as it also optimizes predictability and savings.

World of Ports 2.0 is ship networking unlike any other, and with its sophisticated approach to analyzing data and keeping a ‘gold’ record of estimated cargo loads and discharges, the upcoming Market intelligence module will provide insight on global goods and commodity flows.

With Coronavirus outbreaks and pandemic flares, timelines are unpredictable in the world of shipping and maritime transportation. Delays happen in busy ports and Inchape’s World of Ports 2.0 keeps teams one step ahead of the curve. It lays out all the port and berthing data analytics which enables ship owners and charters to informed decisions that improve their operations…
