What’s new about the Samsung Galaxy S23 series?
The Galaxy S22 and S22+ models share a lot with the S23 and S23+. However, the Galaxy S23 Ultra offers some attractive upgrades. Below is a summary of all the improvements that the new Galaxy S23 model brings to the 2022 versions.
Design
The Galaxy S23 series consists of three phones that resemble the 2022 versions almost exactly, with a few minor exceptions. The backs of the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus have somewhat different designs. To better match the Ultra model, Samsung has dispensed with the “contour cut” design for the camera cutout in favor of distinct cuts for each lens. They come in new hues as well, which we’ll discuss later.
This time around, Samsung is also utilizing Gorilla Glass Victus 2, so the new phones ought to be more robust than the earlier models. They likewise possess an IP68 designation for dust and water protection, and their overall dimensions and weight are not significantly different.
Display
The new Galaxy S23 series phones have the same displays as their forerunners, with the ordinary Galaxy S23 having a 6.1-inch panel, the Galaxy S23+ having a 6.6-inch panel, and the Ultra has an even larger 6.8-inch display. All Galaxy S23 series devices made by Samsung this year use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset from Qualcomm. That’s correct, this time around, there isn’t a rival Exynos chip, so whichever Galaxy S23 phone you purchase and wherever you get it from, you’ll get the same modified version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy is more potent than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Exynos 2200 CPUs present within the devices from last year, so the new phones should perform better overall. This time around, the batteries on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ are bigger as well. The normal Galaxy S23 has a 3,900mAh battery, whilst the Plus version has a 4,700mAh battery. Although there is only a 200mAh difference, we anticipate it will significantly contribute to the phones’ ability to remain on for longer. A 5,000mAh battery is still there in the Ultra model.
The standard Galaxy S23 is still constrained to a comically poor 25W charging speed, unlike the Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra models, which both enable greater charging rates. All three devices in the Galaxy S23 series now have the same selfie camera. Three phones come with a 12MP dual-pixel PDAF f/2.2 selfie camera. The back cameras on all phones can capture 8K videos at 30 frames per second or 4K videos at 60 frames per second, and they all have the same photo and video functions.
