Today we want to share with your ideas for image photos, or in other words, product photography. You need them for product presentation, for example, on the homepage of a store, for designing lookbooks, and for advertising. These are pictures that at first glance arouse the desire want to buy the product. In social networks, such photos are very successful, too!

In this article, in collaboration with Heroshot.io, we’ve compiled an inspiring selection of photos on a variety of topics, and for each one, we’ve put together recommendations on how to take them.

Five general tips on how to make a stylish photo

  1. Take photos in daylight, preferably in the morning. Soft and diffused light helps to bring out the volume, color, and texture of the item. To illuminate the subject from the opposite side, use a white piece of paper or a white T-shirt stretched over a piece of cardboard.
  2. Start with a neutral background. A minimum of unnecessary, distracting objects in the frame, a dash of pretty decor, and a sense of composition and light are what’s needed for a stylish shot.
  3.  Try to convey the actual dimensions of your products. The main goal is to show in every detail what the person is buying. The buyer should trust you and love every detail of the products.
  4. Think through the style of your photos. For example, a certain background, subject, model, angle, or light. Find that detail or style that will make you stand out among the many other projects.
  5. If you are processing photos on your phone, use the same filter. A single style makes an impression and creates an atmosphere around the product. Think about what the photos should be in terms of mood, tone, and processing.

CLOTHING & FOOTWEAR

  • Let people touch your merchandise with photos – try to capture the texture of the fabric and its density.
  • Now it’s trendy to use dense pastel colors as a background for the model – they contrast well with the foreground without drowning it out. Take note!
  • Show the product from an unusual angle – play with shape, use symmetry.
  • Shoot flat lay layouts, adding small but stylish details for the entourage. When shooting, switch your camera to grid mode – this will help you take the picture clearly at a 90-degree angle.
  • If you prefer minimalist shots, remember that they should be as light quality as possible.

COSMETICS

  • Press the texture of the product – lipstick, cream, mascara. Make the pictures “alive” to feel like you want to touch them.
  • The client cares about the formula: show it. Add to the picture the ingredients of which it consists, or beat them up with graphics. The same advice will work for a fragrance shoot. Show what’s in the bouquet – what flowers, fruits, herbs, spices.
  • Your task is to convey emotion through the photo. When thinking up a shoot, imagine your client and create a mood for him, and come up with images and associations that would hook him.
  • Show the subject as an art object and present it most unexpectedly. Let no one have any doubts that your product is art.

FOOD

  • You can’t convey the flavor and aroma of the food, but you can tell the story in the photo. To do this, try to convey texture – dense or airy, moist or dry, crunchy or velvety.
  • be sure to show the composition of the dish. Add ingredients to the picture, and tell through the photo about the food it’s made from.
  • Show in the process. The cooking itself looks as spectacular as the result. And besides, it proves once again that the dish is made from understandable products.
  • Do not be afraid of unexpected solutions in the composition: now in fashion geometry and minimalism. Who says you can’t use them for a food photo?
