For many years, there have been rumors about a Google-branded smartwatch, but Google has today officially unveiled the Pixel Watch, its first piece of hardware.

Finally, a Google wearable has been released after years of rumors, cancellations, rumors, gossip, and everything else. The Pixel Watch is a wearable device that will run WearOS at launch and provide what Google is referring to as a “stock” experience. A few unique features will also be included.

To learn everything there is to know about the Pixel Watch, continue reading.

Pixel Watch release date and price

  • Google I/O 2022 tease
  • 6 October launch
  • 13 October availability

The Pixel Watch was first teased by Google at Google I/O 2022, but it wasn’t officially unveiled until the Made By Google event on October 6, 2022.

The Google Pixel Watch can be pre-ordered right away for £339 for the Wi-Fi model and £379 for the LTE one. As soon as we have updated prices for more countries, we will do so.

Pixel Watch design

  • 41 x 12.3mm, 36g (without band)
  • Stainless steel case
  • 5ATM proofing

The Pixel Watch has a spherical top made of 3D domed glass with a button and crown on one side. It has a smooth design and a minimalist aesthetic instead of the occasionally hefty appearance that smartwatches achieve when they attempt to imitate the look of vintage divers watches.

Although all models are made of stainless steel, the watch will be available in three colors: gold, black, and silver.

The mechanism for strap attachment is smart. With this particular connection, you slide the strap into position and it locks in; a button is used to unlock it. That indicates that it won’t take generic straps and will only function with bands made specifically for the Pixel Watch.

According to Google, there will be seven various styles available at launch, including an active band, leather, metal, and fabric alternatives.

As expected, the Watch’s back shows its optical sensors, allowing it to track things like heart rate.

Pixel Watch display

  • Gorilla Glass 5
  • 320ppi AMOLED
  • 1000 nits
  • Always-on

Google is proud to demonstrate the unique 3D domed glass that covers the display’s top. Despite being built of Gorilla Glass 6, this offers it a seamless and smooth appearance. The corners of the panel have no true bezel.

The screen is AMOLED and has a high pixel density of 320ppi, which is comparable to the Apple Watch. We don’t have the official screen diameter measurement; it has a 41mm diameter.

In keeping with the Apple Watch Series 8, the 1000-nit brightness should ensure visibility in all lighting settings, and it also supports always-off functions. It accepts touch inputs in addition to button and voice commands.

Pixel Watch hardware

  • Samsung Exynos 9110, Cortex M33 co-processor
  • 2GB RAM, 32GB storage
  • 294mAh battery
  • Wi-Fi and LTE versions
  • HRM, GPS, ECG
  • NFC

The Pixel watch has a tonne of sensors, and according to Google, this will be Fitbit’s most sophisticated heart rate tracker yet.

With GPS for navigation, an accelerometer to measure motion, and an ECG to monitor other heart processes, these sensors will feed the fitness features.

The battery can be charged wirelessly and is expected to last 24 hours. It also promises rapid charging, allowing for 9 hours of use after only 45 minutes on the charger. A 294mAh battery is present.

Both Wi-Fi and LTE versions of the watch will be available, giving you the choice of staying connected without a phone and being able to make and receive calls.

The Exynos 9110, backed by the M33 co-processor, powers the entire system and, according to Google, will do various tracking-related tasks while using less power.

Software and features

  • WearOS 3.5
  • Fitbit integration
  • Exclusive functions

The WearOS 3.5 operating system will be used by the Pixel Watch, according to Google. It’s a “stock” manifestation of WearOS, meaning it won’t look exactly like the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5. The software will have special functions that are exclusive to the Pixel Watch.

So, there will be options for modifying the watch faces. Including 18 watch faces that are exclusive to the Pixel Watch and the ability to create your own using tools like Google Photos.

With seamless integration and support for features like music and sleep tracking—a popular aspect of Fitbit’s software—you’ll be able to access the Fitbit experience through your watch. A Daily Readiness report will also be provided, which will indicate your level of readiness for the day based on your recent activity and sleep.

All the typical Google services are available to you, including Google Assistant, Google Wallet for mobile payments, and navigation through Google Maps with haptic guiding.

You’ll have access to all the WearOS 3 applications, including Spotify and Strava, so you can keep personalizing your experience.

The Pixel Watch can be used as a remote shutter, which is another entertaining feature for Pixel phone owners.
