We are reliant on our computers for a lot of things. This is why 84 percent of households own a computer in the U.S.

Having computer problems can be extremely stressful if you are a rookie and not a tech expert. Are you having issues with your computer? Try these simple troubleshooting steps and get your computer problem solved.

  1. Install Updates

By updating your operating system, programs, and hardware, you may solve your computer problem. The update process varies depending on what you are updating and your device.

To check your operating system, look for updates by opening Settings and then click “Update and Security” for Windows computers. If you have a macOS, go to the App Store and go to the Updates tab. You can then see all updates that are pending.

Be sure to also check your web browsers and virus programs for available updates. Click the install updates automatically option to make sure your computer is always up-to-date.

  1. Reboot Your Computer

This may seem simple, but it may just work. You can either press and hold the power button or use the Shut Down command to turn your computer off. If it does not respond to these requests, press and hold the power for five seconds to force the computer to shut down.

Wait atleast 30 seconds before turning your computer back on again. Check here if you encounter system thread exception not handled during boot time.

  1. Run a Virus Scan

Launch your virus scanning software and run a complete scan. This may take a little while to complete. The most comprehensive scans may not run by default, so it’s important to double-check.

Sometimes scanners can miss these problems in a scan. Try running your main security software along with other applications like Kaspersky for macOS or Windows, Microsoft Safety Scanner, or McAfee.

  1. Free Up Hard Drive Space

Your operating system needs about 15-20 percent of your storage space free on your computer to run properly.

To start adding some space, go through your Downloads folder and remove anything you don’t need. This includes downloaded music, photos, videos, large documents, and old programs. Completing this step will free up a great deal of space depending on how much you have.

You can also look for Desk Cleanup tools to help you remove items you don’t need.

  1. Check Your Internet

If your internet is slow, try clearing out temporary files and cookies.

Go to the web browser Make money selling backlinks and select History from the top menu bar. Then click on Clear Recent History. You can also choose to block cookies in the settings of your browser.

If that doesn’t work, try to check your WiFi. Plug your computer directly into the router to see if you have any issues. Also, try re-booting your router to see if that helps.

Get Your Computer Problem Solved

Hopefully, these tips will get your computer problem solved. If you keep having issues, you can try Googling the issue or contacting Help for your computer brand (i.e. Dell or Apple Support).
