The Seattle Seahawks have been one of the most solid franchises in pro football for the best part of the last decade, especially if you look at how NFL odds experts portray them. With Pete Carroll as coach and Russell Wilson as QB, the Hawks have always found a steady way to make their presence felt in the always tough NFC West division as well as in the NFL in general. It doesn’t hurt that Seattle has one of the most supportive and loyal fan bases in the league, as well as a fairly healthy and positive football environment to work with that makes playing in Seattle one of the more attractive decisions for players left and right.

But with the 2021 season being one that saw the Seahawks fall victims to a slew of poor results and negative situations, the upcoming 2022 season is looking more and more like one where Seattle needs to retake control of their surroundings and make sure that all of the best decisions are made to secure a prominent football future.

With this said, we bring you our picks for three of the most important issues that the Seahawks should be targeting to work on during this offseason to revert last season’s negative results.

Make Up Their Minds About Russell Wilson

When football fans think about the Seattle Seahawks, they automatically think of three things. One is the former “Legion of Boom”, one of the best defensive units that the league has seen in recent years. Next is Marshawn Lynch and the effect he had on the team, all while holding the fort down as the premier running back for Seattle in past years. But most importantly, when football connoisseurs think about the Seattle Seahawks, they think about QB Russell Wilson. Wilson has been one of the best QB’s in the league for years now, with his numbers season after season providing enough reassurance to that claim.

But with that said, rumors have been making the rounds around the league about Wilson wanting an out of Seattle to try his luck at going for another title run in another team. While Wilson has made it a point to reassure the team and its fan base that he has no issue with staying, that speech will only go as far as possible before the time to make the toughest decisions comes into play. In all honesty, the best decision for Seattle right now is to work out an agreement with Wilson, especially taking into account how lackluster and poor this upcoming draft class looks like in the QB department. While the idea of starting out new might not sound like the worst idea for the Hawks, letting Wilson walk without having a true and secure plan for a future post-Russell Wilson will never be a good idea.

Dealing With Free Agency In The Safest Way

One of the main keys that Seattle will definitely need to work on this offseason is how to deal with how the free agency market plays out. As of now, players such as Duane Brown, Brandon Shell, and Ethan Pocic, all three very important pieces of Seattle’s offensive line are scheduled to become free agents. If Seattle is honest in their efforts to try and maintain Wilson with the team as well as keeping him happy, making sure that three of the most important players in his offensive line don’t leave should be a definite must here. Apart from that, taking the bet on keeping RB Rashaad Penny, who ended up leading the league in rushing over the last part of the 2021 season, should be up there in the list of priorities for the team.

On defense, safety Quandre Diggs, starting CB’s D.J. Reed and Sidney Jones IV as well as DE Rasheem Green, and DTs Al Woods and Robert Nkemdiche are all as well slated to become unrestricted free agents. While Seattle needs to work on their cap situation, keeping Diggs, Reed, and Jones IV should definitely be of the utmost importance to maintain a certain level of stability in a team that’s usually known for having very strong defensive units.

Resigning DK Metcalf To A Multi-Year Extension ASAP

Last but not least, while again, Seattle desperately needs to work on creating more cap space for next season, that doesn’t mean that re-signing star WR DK Metcalf as soon as possible should be taken lightly. Yes, resigning Metcalf to a multi-year deal will surely cause the Hawks to take a massive hit in their cap space, but then again, Seattle needs to focus on being able to resign as many of their pivotal starters as possible before they end up walking away.

Metcalf has been a perennial star in Seattle’s offense ever since joining the league and he continuously shows that he is still a couple of seasons away from reaching his top-performing stage in his career which means that Seattle should get him signed to a multi-year extension before the conditions get too steep to deal with.
