The Seattle Seahawks find themselves in a position that they haven’t been in years. One where there’s more doubt surrounding the team than anything else. Still, if you look at some of the top NFL stats pages around, you’ll see that the Seahawks are still regarded to in actuality as one of the most solid and serious NFL franchises around. So if that’s the case, then why is this offseason suddenly turning into one of the most important in the Seahawks’ recent history?

Well, a total of sixteen of Seattle’s players are slated to become unrestricted free agents, which means that if the situation is not handled properly, a mass exodus of talent might end up happening. But wait, if you’re a Seahawks fan, don’t panic, Pete Carroll and John Schneider have everything under control, or at least that’s what we’d like to think.

So now, with Seattle holding a considerable cap space to work with, the fact that unless heaven falls Russell Wilson will not be leaving the team, at least this season, and with some very important decisions regarding which of their players that are waiting to hit the free agency market this offseason, we bring you our picks for the two most important moves, within the franchise, regarding their free agents that the Seahawks should make. Let’s get to talking about resigning players.

RB Rashaad Penny

While some could argue that Rashaad Penny has had more of a lackluster career in the NFL rather than one full of accolades, this man, and especially after what he showed in the last part of the 2021 season, leading the league in rushing yards, deserves to be resigned by the Seahawks and taken as their premier option at running back. Now why, if we’re talking about a player who for the majority of his playing career in the pros hasn’t done anything to wow fans and experts, should he get resigned by a team like the Seahawks, who hold a very respectable image, especially for free agents looking for a new team to play in? Because of how good he was in his last five games of the season. Yes, that might be a stretch, but it’s a stretch worth betting on.

Now, of course, the first question that comes to mind is, will he be able to keep up his numbers from the last part of last season throughout a completely new and whole one? Well, if we were the Seahawks then it’s a gamble that’s worth going for, of course offering a deal that positively suits both parties. If you need any proof take into account this. In the last five games of last season, Penny rushed for 671 yards, which if calculated based on a 17-game season would amount to almost 2,300 yards. Now, of course, that will most probably not end up being the case, but if the Hawks can get at least 1,500 rushing yards from him, they should consider themselves the luckiest team in the land.

S Quandre Diggs

When you have a player in your team who if he gets injured manages to make his teammates shed tears for him, then you should keep that player in the squad, because of the effect that he has on and off the field. That’s exactly the case with S Quandre Diggs after he suffered a devastating leg injury in the last game of the 2021 season. While medical reports have Diggs set to return a couple of months before the start of the 2022 season, the Seahawks should rush to resign him before he takes his defensive talents somewhere else.

While he was playing for the Detroit Lions Diggs was a big talented fish in a small and untalented pond, but once he arrived in Seattle everything definitely took a turn for the best. Diggs has put up some very respectable numbers, with 13 interceptions over 37 games since joining the Hawks. He was giving off some Earl Thomas in the early 2010s vibes that all Seahawks fans will know exactly what we mean. It’s not difficult to back the claim that Diggs was the most outstanding player in Seattle’s defense last season and finding a player with such a plethora of talents as well as so much room to continue growing will not be an easy task if Seattle allows Diggs to walk, so if the Seahawks are smart, they will sign Diggs as soon as possible.
